North American Skunk
Common Striped Skunk
Found right across North America, these shy animals are considered carnivores despite the large quantity of vegetables and fruit in their natural diet. In the wild they would eat insects, a few bits of fruit and vegetables and small animals. In captivity we feed them a diet which consists of vegetables - such as sweet corn, peas, cucumber, carrot, broccoli but they also get some insects, cottage cheese and small amounts of boiled chicken.
- Live up to 20 years.
- Live bearing they have around 4-9 babies a year.
- Adult Skunks grow the the size of a small dog.
- Habitat being deciduous woodland.
- Nocturnal mammal.
Skunks are one of the most smelliest animals in the world, this is because they spray predators with a very smelly substance. If this gets on your clothes or skin it smells for weeks and if it gets in your eyes it can cause temporary blindness.
