Eurycantha calcarata
Found on the islands Papua New Guinea. Stick insects are herbivores, in the wild they would eat leaves growing naturally in their environment. In captivity we feed them on bramble as that is the nearest to their food in the wild.
- Live up to 1-2 years.
- Egg layers, they lay around 1-3 eggs a day.
- Adults can reach 15 centimetres.
- Habitat being rainforests.
- Nocturnal insect.
Crazy Fact
The male of this species of stick insect has a spike on the end of its body which it uses to mimic the tail of a scorpion. If it feels threatened it will raise the tail above its back.
